Alaïa and Balenciaga – Sculptors of Shape

I was fascinated by the dresses by Balenciaga, the master. The bodices, the seams in the back, the roundness in the shoulders…I wondered how they held their shape, what magical cut of clothes could create such effect. I wanted to understand the mystery of the clothes and I would redraw them, imagining the bone structure that lay beneath.
