Alexander McQueen: Inspirations

Start Date 23 December 2011
End Date 14 April 2013
Venue The Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe
Location Hamburg, Germany

Lee Alexander McQueen (1969-2010) was one of the most renowned and influential British fashion designers. The MKG has dedicated a bijou homage comprising ca. 30 models of McQueen’s last collections to the deceased. His provocative, often cryptic collections and his spectacular fashion shows attracted an international interest since the 1990s. He related themes and elements of art history and social history, of engineering and natural sciences to human nature. Masterfully he realised his ideas of elegant eveningwear, extravagant suits and items of clothing of futurist appearance, combining with great virtuosity innovative and historic silhouettes, cuts and materials. The exhibition is complimented by models of other designers, historic fashion and other media.
