Azzedine Alaïa: Couture / Sculpture
From 11 July to 25 October 2015 Galleria Borghese hosts the Azzedine Alaïa exhibition. Couture / Sculpture: over eighty dresses, exhibited in the rooms of the Museum in coherence and in dialogue with the masterpieces of the collection, testify the scouturier’s attention to matter, forms and the female body. Azzedine Alaïa introduces in the Borghese Gallery, a privileged place for sculpture, a completely new sculptural variant, that of “soft sculpture”.
At the base of Couture Sculpture is the relationship between Alaïa and the Borghese Gallery, a bond that also reveals a lot about the master’s creative technique. Her lively, fulminating, tirelessly inventive gaze never seems to move away from the body and conception of the real woman. The inspiration of Azzedine Alaïa, in modifying bodies and profiles with her cutting game, configures in the exhibition a true contrast of scissors against chisel.
