Design Views Vol. X. Buki Akomolafe. Fi Ak Fale _ Here and There
With her label of the same name, the Berlin fashion designer Buki Akomolafe combines traditional craftsmanship with an aesthetic vision. Androgynous, precise cuts meet eye-catching wax prints in their collections. The elaborately quilted skirts and tops, which, like the basics, are completely produced in her studio and a small factory in Berlin, stand out in particular. She only uses ecologically compatible materials, such as organically grown cotton and hemp silk or West African wax printing materials. She spent her early childhood in Nigeria with her father, who runs an agricultural project there. Conserving resources is just as much a concern for her as creating a new awareness of fashion and materials.
Design Views is a new series of exhibitions by the Kunstgewerbemuseum and the International Design Center Berlin.
