Collette Dinnigan: Unlaced
The career of internationally acclaimed designer Collette Dinnigan, will be celebrated in a new exhibition opening exclusively at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum this week. Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said Collette Dinnigan: Unlaced is a unique opportunity to see the designer’s garment mastery up close.
“Visitors are sure to love looking at works created for clients such as Princess Mary of Denmark, the Duchess of Cambridge and Taylor Swift. Ms Dinnigan opened her first boutique in the Paddington fashion precinct, so it’s fitting a retrospective of her stellar career be held in Sydney where it all began.”
The exhibition will showcase Dinnigan’s 25 year career and features over 100 garments as well as a catwalk experience. Collette Dinnigan: Unlaced has been secured exclusively for Sydney by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, in partnership with the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS). “The exhibition is expected to bring around 10,000 visitors to Sydney, contributing $3 million to the State’s economy,” Mr Ayres said.
“Being involved in this exciting project has enabled the dynamic world of fashion and the disciplined curation of museums to fuse together. I am honoured to showcase my collections, collaborating with the best designers and museum curators, bringing audiences in Sydney where it all began, ‘behind the scenes’ into the world of Collette Dinnigan.”
It is the first exhibition developed as part of the new MAAS Centre for Fashion, Australia’s first public centre for fashion excellence. The Centre for Fashion will provide unrivalled access to the largest public fashion collection in Australia. Collette Dinnigan: Unlaced will be held at the Powerhouse Museum from 5 September 2015 to 28 August 2016.
