Comme des Garçons: White Drama
Galliera invites you to discover the whole of the last Comme des Garçons fashion show, Spring-Summer 2012: here no allocated seat, no platform, no timing … it is not a parade but a installation, designed by Rei Kawakubo, where the visitor has complete freedom to admire the models up close.
Creator of ruptures, Rei Kawakubo transforms the classic exercise of the parade and twists the codes of haute couture. With White Drama and her almost monochrome models, she magnifies the major stages of life: birth, marriage, death and transcendence.
White Drama is white, pure, ceremonial and all its nuances. Floral blooms, flaky handkerchiefs, fluffy materials, here lace holes inspired by a baptismal dress and there an ornamental obi-style knot, large coats and high hats reminiscent of the Sevillian processions of Holy Week, the dress of bride like the silky envelope of an insect and the fabrics, by turns raw and refined, shiny and matt, opaque and transparent, which stand up, breathe, flourish borrowing vital forces from the mineral, vegetable and animal kingdoms of nature.
White Drama is a tour de force because it emanates from these scholarly fashion architectures an immaterial dimension that touches the spiritual and transports you to the unclassifiable universe of Rei Kawakubo.
