Don’t Forget to Remember: Linda Jackson and David McDiarmid
Australian artist David McDiarmid (1952–1995) is best known for his fiercely political and stealthily humorous artwork relating to cultural politics. He was an artist and artistic director for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in the late 1980s and early 1990s, responsible for posters and large-scale street sculptures for the annual parade.
McDiarmid is less known for his textile work with Australian fashion designer Linda Jackson, who is currently featured in Step Into Paradise at the Powerhouse Museum. Jackson and McDiarmid met in the early 1970s, through their mutual friend, artist and jeweller, Peter Tully.
In this display of McDiarmid’s textile work for Jackson, we engage in an act of remembering, reflecting the title of his work Don’t Forget to Remember.
