Fashion Vegetables
Exhibition that presents 16 costumes made with vegetables from the Calahorra garden that have been part of the collections exhibited at the “Ciudad de la Verdura” Catwalks in its last four editions. This particular fashion show, held at the end of April during the Vegetable Gastronomic Days in Calahorra, is the only one that includes this type of materials in the making of its designs.
For three weeks, reproductions of the most representative models of international designers such as Alexander McQueen, Cristóbal Balenciaga, and Coco Chanel can be seen at the Museum. The students of the Fashion Degree of the Superior School of Design of La Rioja are in charge of making these suits. For its production, among other fruit and vegetable products, beans, onion and garlic peel, peas, tomatoes, red and green peppers, broccoli or red cabbage have been used. The result is a singular parade full of wit and color that impresses with the beauty, industry and complexity of the designs.
These 16 costumes are part of the collection of the Calahorra Vegetable Museum, the only space in Spain dedicated to vegetables and it is the first time that they are exhibited outside the institution.
The exhibition is framed within the framework of the numerous and varied proposals offered by the Gastrofestival in its eighth edition and more specifically, within its Gastroculture section, one of the 6 special programs proposed by this annual event. In this way, we can find a large offer of activities in museums, galleries, bookstores, theaters and cultural centers that demonstrate the relationship between gastronomy and artistic disciplines.
