For Richer For Poorer: Weddings Unveiled
Discover the story of Jewish weddings in Britain in a major new exhibition For Richer For Poorer: Weddings Unveiled (13 February to 31 May 2015).
The exhibition showcases our rich and evocative collection of material relating to weddings within the immigrant Jewish community from the 1880s to the mid-20th century.
Wedding dresses, invitations and menus will be displayed alongside the museum’s huge archive of vintage wedding photographs, particularly those of the East End wedding photographer Boris Bennett.
For Richer, For Poorer also examines the changing nature of Jewish weddings over five decades and demonstrates how they shine a light on the aspirations and hopes of the Jewish community during this period.
It offers a fascinating social history and shines a light on how weddings offered the community an opportunity to celebrate, practise old traditions and adopt new ones.
