Golden Cages
Golden Cages is presented as an exhibition proposal for women’s clothing items, which in combination with inner frames (hoop skirts and polisones) and corsets, will try to highlight – following a chronological thread – the most unique and paradigmatic moments in the configuration of the silhouette, constrained and caged, which predominated in the image and aesthetics of women in the second half of the 19th century.
At the same time, and by means of a symbolic prop: the bird woman, it is intended to show a broader reflection that transcends the same formal concept of cage / clothing to reach other broader conceptual approaches to “golden” beauty and “cages” of the feminine universe.
Through a careful selection of pieces of female clothing from the Collection of the Costume Museum, in combination with underwear, the most unique moments of the configuration of the silhouette, constricted and caged, which predominated in the image and aesthetics of the woman of the XIX century.
