From April 2 to September 11, 2016, Fashion Museum Hasselt presented ‘Haute-à-Porter’, curated by internationally respected fashion designer, journalist and photographer Filep Motwary .

Haute couture invariably evokes concepts such as craftsmanship, luxury, extravagance and spectacle. But, aren’t these just as features of ready-to-wear today? The exhibition took a closer look at this issue and explored the changing relationship and cross-fertilization between haute couture and ready-to-wear.

Using different themes and a spectacular selection of silhouettes and accessories from top designers and fashion houses, the exhibition zoomed in on the influence of couture on contemporary fashion. Complemented by photography, film, art and music, Haute-à-Porter offers an original look at the fashion industry of the past 30 years.

This is what Vogue France wrote about the expo:

” Fashion Forward ” au musée des Arts Décoratifs à Paris et ” Manus x Machina ” au Metropolitan Museum of Art de New York, ” Haute-à-Porter ” au Fashion Museum d’Hasselt and Belgique vient compléter ce trio de tête des expositions fashion à ne pas manquer en 2016.

Haute-à-Porter was thus one of the three ‘Must visit’ exhibitions of 2016 according to Vogue.
