The Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation organizes the exhibition “Ioanna Papantoniou ‘Doulamas’ the magnificent. An exceptional overcoat” at the Benaki Mueum, Pireos 138, Athens, Greece.

The aim of the exhibition is to analyse the long time relationship of Ioanna Papantoniou with the doulamas, a relationship based on her research that brought to light the different variations of the garment, but mainly on the inspiration she drew from it during her long career as a stage costume designer. Some of her creations for many theatrical productions for the National Theatre of Greece, the National Theatre of Northern Greece, the Greek National Opera and the Thessaly Theatre will be on display at the exhibition.

Finally, Ioanna Papantoniou took the opportunity of her participation in the 2017 ICOM Costume Committee meeting to propose to a number of Greek designers an experimental exhibition, held at the “Kanari 4”, Athens, leading to a larger one, on the doulamas and the pirpiri, having as an example the Dries van Noten Inspirations exhibition in MoMu, Antwerp 2015.
