Iris Van Herpen
On the heels of the monograph exhibition at the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands, the International Museum for Lace and Fashion features this young Dutch designer, already a big name in fashion. Executed between 2008 and 2012, the thirty or so pieces offer a fine panorama of the avant-gardist world of the designer. Her sculptural and innovative dresses make an enormous contribution to the vitality of conceptual fashion. Iris Van Herpen enriches her reflections through collaboration with architects, scientists and artists. Spanning disciplines, between traditional know-how and innovative technological explorations, she handles the material, creates or redirects it. These dress-sculptures with organic shapes interpret radiations, splashes, fumes, micro-organisms, crystals… and fluctuate between complex decorative treatment (interlacing, piping, lacing) and futuristic examination.
