Man Ray and Fashion
Exploring for the first time the work of Man Ray from the perspective of fashion, the exhibition highlights his work carried out for the greatest couturiers – Poiret, Schiaparelli, Chanel – and the greatest magazines – Vogue, Vanity Fair and Harper’s Bazaar. While fashion photography was still in its infancy, Man Ray developed in 1921 a new and modern aesthetic, made of technical inventiveness, freedom and humor. His experiments and his surreal winks blur the boundaries between art and fashion and make him one of the inventors of contemporary fashion photography.
Exhibition organized by the Réunion des Musées Nationaux – Grand Palais and the City of Marseille at the Musee des Luxembourg, Paris.
