Marie Antoinette, a Fashion Icon

If there is one field in which Marie Antoinette has left a lasting mark across the centuries, it is fashion. As a key influence on the style of her time, she has since continued to inspire designers around the world.

An exhibition at the heart of the Festival of Art History

On the occasion of the Festival of Art History (June 5–7), whose theme this year is “Fashion”, the château’s visitor route presents eleven stage costumes from the collections of the National Center for Stage Costume.

The exhibition highlights costumes designed for Adolphe Adam’s opera Le Postillon de Longjumeau. Created by Christian Lacroix, these works evoke all the flamboyance of the 18th century. This production, directed by Michel Fau, was performed at the Opéra-Comique in 2019.

The costumes were made in the workshops of the Opéra-Comique in Paris. They are displayed on mannequins lent for the occasion by the National Center for Stage Costume.

The eleven pieces are distributed across several rooms of the château, throughout the visitor route.
