Modamorphosis

The formal evolution of clothing constantly refers us to the past, in a process of reinterpretation that shows the cyclical nature of fashion. At all times, dressmakers and designers have sought their source of inspiration in historical fashions or in the work of the great masters of the 20th century. Sometimes small solutions for a cut or certain decorative elements reveal that look, which is often, first of all, nostalgic. But the most interesting reinterpretations are those that are carried out on the typology itself, that is, those that modify a recognizable type of costume to generate novel variations and, in some cases, come to pose a completely new form. 

This exhibition directly addresses these “metamorphoses”. From nine milestones in the collection of the Costume Museum, the process of construction, deconstruction and reconstruction that has shaped contemporary fashion is proposed.
