Platinum Jubilee Display

Start Date 03 July 2022
End Date 25 September 2022
Venue Palace of Holyroodhouse
Location Edinburgh, Scotland

In celebration of The Queen’s historic Platinum Jubilee in 2022, the Palace of Holyroodhouse will host a display looking back at Her Majesty’s previous Jubilees.

The display will feature outfits worn by Her Majesty on occasions to celebrate the Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees. In 1977 for The Queen’s Silver Jubilee, the royal couturier Sir Hardy Amies designed a striking ensemble of dress, coat and stole in pink silk crepe and chiffon with a matching hat designed by Frederick Fox with flowerheads hanging from silk stems. The ensemble was worn at the Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral on 7 June 1977 marking the 25th anniversary of The Queen’s Accession.

Also on show will be the outfits worn by The Queen for her two appearances on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the Platinum Jubilee weekend. For the salute and flypast during the Trooping the Colour ceremony on 2 June, Her Majesty wore a pale blue dress with a matching coat and hat, both featuring a delicate beaded and diamanté trim, designed by Angela Kelly. Her Majesty’s second Platinum Jubilee ensemble consisted of a vivid green wool-crêpe dress and coat designed by Stewart Parvin, with a coordinating wool-crêpe hat by milliner Rachel Trevor-Morgan, worn following the Platinum Jubilee Pageant on 5 June, marking the end of four days of celebrations across the United Kingdom and Commonwealth.

Alongside the ensembles, the exhibition will feature a selection of gifts and ceremonial objects relating to The Queen’s official engagements in Scotland throughout her 70-year reign.
