“Rodarte: States of Matter,” the first West Coast solo exhibition of the work of fashion and costume designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, will be displayed through Sunday, June 5, 2011 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA), 8687 Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. through 6 p.m.

The exhibit presents recent work in fashion and costume design by Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte. Installed as a series of interrelated conceptual vignettes, both static and in motion, the installation portrays garments as charged sculptural objects. Curated by MOCA Associate Curator Rebecca Morse, and designed by Alexandre de Betak, the exhibition features pieces from several of Rodarte’s recent runway collections, as well as original ballet costumes designed by the Mulleavy’s for the feature film Black Swan.
