Shapeshifters – Magic in Fashion
Shapeshifters – Magic in Fashion presents 12 Nordic fashion designers and artists working at the intersections of fashion, art, and performance. Through new and existing works, they explore the ritual and transformative potential of clothing, showing how garments can mark life transitions, blur boundaries between reality and fantasy, and create new narratives and communities.
The artists represent a new, diverse Nordic generation with global outlooks and diasporic experiences. Their practices revolve around origin, spirituality, loss, healing, and transformation — and a search for meaning beyond the material. Attentive to both culture and nature, the visible and the hidden, they use the magic of fashion to challenge norms and rethink identity.
The exhibition is part of CC’s ongoing focus on cross-aesthetic practices and has been developed in collaboration with Ane Lynge-Jorlén (ALPHA) and is part of a Nordic partnership between EMMA (Finland), the National Museum (Norway), the Röhsska Museum (Sweden), and Copenhagen Contemporary (Denmark).
