Style in Silk: Tradition and Innovation in Chinese Fashion
Meridian International Center presented Style in Silk: Tradition and Innovation in Chinese Fashion, a unique exhibition of silk art and fashion in Washington, D.C. This joint U.S.-Chinese cultural project marked the first time American audiences experienced materials from the textile study collection at the China National Silk Museum—the world’s largest silk museum.
The exhibition featured 62 silk costumes, paintings, and textiles. Viewers learned about the materials, techniques, and aesthetics that characterize ancient and contemporary Chinese fashion, and appreciated couture clothing by world-renowned designers, such as NE∙TIGER, Qi Gang, Qiu Haisuo, and Wu Haiyan.
This exhibition was made possible with support from the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China. This was the second exhibition developed through Meridian’s American-Chinese Cultural Initiative, a public-private partnership between U.S. and Chinese businesses, non-profit cultural organizations, and government entities that strengthens and improves relations between the two nations.
