Exhibition display of dressed mannequins

Devoted to Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto, “Dream Shop” is the third instalment of a series beginning with the Pitti Immagine Foundation in Florence and the Musée de la Mode et du Textile in Paris.

Conceived of in two parts, this event will at once be a retrospective of the designer’s work, as well as a unique threefold experience exploring the visual, tactile, and corporal aspects of his work.

Staged by Masao Nihei, who is best recognised for his particular treatment of light in his work on fashion shows, Dream Shop presents 80 silhouettes, from the 1980s to today, mapping a path that highlights the essential principles of clothing according to Yohji Yamamoto. This includes the value of the colour black, the use of colour as light, the construction of an equilibrium, the traditions and techniques of French couture, and the importance of air as the integral component between the body and clothing.

The exhibition emphasises the decades between 1995 to 2005, an era marking Yamamoto’s considerable reassessment of his designs.
